Free Sewing Lesson 6 - All Things Zippers

Published on 9 July 2024 at 11:54

Hello sewing friends!  I hope you are enjoying this sewing lesson series!  I have really enjoyed writing it for you, and I love seeing the creations that you make!

Last month we went on a road trip through South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota.  It was such a great trip, but it involved lots of miles during which the kiddos needed some entertainment.  I made some new little toy pouches/colorable playmats.  Let me tell you, they were a hit, and I'm excited to show you how to make your own toy pouches.

This is really a perfect beginner project.  And you don't have to make it into a toy pouch.  It can be a zipper bag for pencils, cosmetics, gifts, tools, the possibilities are endless! And you can get the pattern for 20% off during the month of July with code ZIPPERS20.

So grab the Chicory pattern and come learn about zippers with me!!!  First we'll dive into all the common questions surrounding zippers.  Learn which zipper to choose for your project, how to install a zipper pull, and tips for sewing with zippers.  Follow this link to get your zipper questions answered.  If I didn't answer your zipper question in my post, feel free to ask in my facebook group.

Once you feel comfortable with zippers, you can dive into sewing all the bags.  Just warning you, it's kind of addicting!!!  If you want to sew up some toy pouches, head over to this blog post, where I give you a tutorial for adding the toy pockets for any size toy.  You can make toy pouches for cars, calico critters, hatchimals, really any toy your kiddo loves.

Happy Summer Sewing!  And don't forget to post pictures of your zipper pouches in my facebook group and/or in the Sunflower Seams facebook group with #learnwithsunflowerseams to be entered to win a free pattern of choice!!!
